“Shades of Blossoms” Arrives at Artelli
[Macau – February 2, 2024] Artelli, the multi-dimensional art space, is delighted to present the internationally renowned Chinese artist, Zhuang Hong-Yi’s solo exhibition, titled “Shades of Blossoms”, to Macau for the first time. The exhibition will run from today until February 29, coinciding with Chinese New Year. The exhibition aims to offer visitors and Macau residents an immersive journey through a sea of blooming flowers, blending art with the traditional festive atmosphere.
Zhuang graduated from the Sichuan College of Fine Arts in China in the 1990s, and later pursued further studies in the Netherlands, effectively bridging his Chinese roots with European influences. His distinctive concepts and techniques have gained favor among art collectors. His artistic creations revolve around themes of joy, spirituality, and allure, aiming to reconnect audiences with the tranquility of nature while exuding a sense of happiness. The flower motif dominates Zhuang’s artworks as a symbol of his enthusiasm, love, and pursuit for life.
Zhuang's works speak through his renowned layered flowerbeds, presenting a visual language of hope and new beginnings, while evoking feelings of happiness, fulfillment, and rejuvenation. He skillfully translates personal narratives and perspectives into visual tales, using a harmonious and emotive color palette that renders his art both astonishing and intriguing. Shades of Blossoms explores the rebirth of spring and the blossoming of flowers, forming an elegant imagery with the interplay of light and shadow. By fusing vibrant colors and light within the flowerbeds, his artwork captures the enduring beauty that persists along the passage of time.
In his own words, Zhuang describes himself as a “globetrotting artist”, driven by a strong passion to explore the world. It was during the ‘90s that he roamed through the Netherlands and serendipitously discovered flower fields nestled within the natural Dutch landscapes, serving as a profound inspiration for his distinctive artistic style today. Zhuang observes and studies the color palettes of nature, integrating the interplay of light and shadow. In this process, his abstract creations are infused with a rich tapestry of emotions and memories. Zhuang’s renowned and highly collectible “Flowerbed Colorchange” stands as a distinctive hallmark of his creations. When viewed from left to right, the artwork appears to change color, and the folded rice paper makes a cohesive piece when experienced up close, revealing a harmonious tapestry of seamlessly blended petal textures. This enchanting gradient effect lures the audience into a dynamic visual journey akin to a floral kaleidoscope. To fully immerse oneself in the textured and ever-evolving artistic landscapes, experiencing Zhuang’s works in person becomes a journey not to be missed.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Artelli during the Chinese New Year – discover a journey through blossoming flowers to celebrate a new year to come.”
Zhuang Hong-Yi, Internationally Renowned Chinese Artist
Zhuang Hong-Yi shared, “Presenting my debut exhibition at Artelli Macau, as well as my first exhibition of 2024, holds a very special place in my heart. The diverse culture and vibrant development of Macau have always left a lasting impression on me. Having a high-caliber art space like Artelli in such a culturally enchanting city is truly rare. The canvas-like multi-dimensional art space aligns seamlessly with my creative philosophy, highlighting the vibrant floral world beneath my brush, and presenting my work in a profound manner. I believe this exhibition will offer the audience a transcultural artistic experience, allowing them to immerse themselves in the beauty of blooming flowers within my works. I hope my flowerbeds inspire the audience to feel my passion for life, nature, and joy, leaving them with a new perspective on life.”
